Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Supports Department’s operations by providing for customer service requirements, such as house managing or stage managing. Duties may also include programming the light board, detailed painting, carpentry, or other skilled or supervisory functions and other duties as required.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

As directed by the Theater Director, Theater Steward, or Administrative Assistant, the employee must:
1. Serve as House Manager for theater events, ensuring that ushers wipe counters, vacuum floors, take tickets, hand out programs, assist with box office operations, seating elderly or handicapped customers, and providing general information to the public. House Manager ensures that all house and safety policies and regulations are enforced in a professional and customer service oriented manner.
2. Builds set units, performs detailed painting and setting up and/or striking events.
3. Serve as designer for events in such roles as light board programmer, Props Master, costumer, etc.
4. Serve as stage manager calling all cues, scene changes, and ensuring all performers and crew are present and on task.

Required Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent.
Have worked a minimum of 30 events as an usher, or previous professional carpentry or painting experience, or three productions having served as Props Master or costumer, or stage management training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The Stage Technician must reflect appropriate theater and customer service etiquette procedures, and proficiency in theatrical procedures and terminology is preferred. In addition, this individual must have a cooperative attitude, initiative, and be able to communicate effectively with students, campus visitors, and college staff.

Physical Demands

Walking, standing, lifting, carrying, and bending. Required to lift items weighing 25 pounds.

Work inside a well lighted and air conditioned area most of the time


Outside will be exposed to all types of weather, noise, and vibration from equipment.


Required to work safely and follow safety rules. Report unsafe working conditions and behavior. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.

Other duties may be assigned by immediate supervisor. May be required to work outside regular working hours.
