Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The part-time teacher-assistant is responsible to assist the teacher and teacher assistant in the planning and execution of a developmentally appropriate program including the immediate coordination and overall operation of his/her classroom. This includes the planning and provision of a high quality early childhood experience for pre-school children that meets all local, state, national and federal laws and regulations for child care centers. The part-time teacher assistant will need to have the ability to work and communicate with children and families of diverse cultures and languages. In addition, The National Association for the Education of Young Children guidelines, Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Minimum Standards, and Laredo Community College Child Development Program goals must be adhered to.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assist in promoting and supervising activities which promote the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of each child.
2. Assist in the supervising of children to ensure a healthy and safe environment for children at all times.
3. Assist in assessing and monitoring on-going basis children’s individual needs and strengths and utilize them for planning classroom instruction.
4. Assist in creating and maintaining a classroom environment that meet all State and Federal requirements and meet the developmental needs of children.
5. Assist in maintaining adequate teaching materials and facilitating children’s active exploration of materials, activities, and environment.
6. Model best practices in assigned classrooms and use teaching strategies based on children’s individual needs and LCC Child Development program goals.
7. Use positive approaches to guide children’s behavior towards active involvement in learning and the development of self-discipline.
8. Assist in providing and maintaining a neat organized classroom.
9. Must be responsible for equipment, materials, and supplies in assigned classroom.
10. Assist in monitoring, assisting, and coordinating LCC students, and volunteers in daily classroom activities for provision of quality services.
11. Assist in maintaining written and verbal communication with parents and assist in meeting parent’s needs.
12. Assist in promoting parent involvement.
13. Assist in develop and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans for the children.
14. Assist in collecting and maintaining all classroom related documentation required by LCC.
15. Assist in overseeing the sign-in and sign-out of all classroom children.
16. Assist in administering required assessments.
17. Maintain daily attendance.
18. Assist in coordinating the planning of daily activities and field trips.
19. Attend staff development activities as directed for personal professional
development and growth as a Part-Time Teacher Assistant
20. Attend staff meetings, trainings, open house and other program activities as assigned by the Center Director.
21. Assist in the implementation and documentation of the Child Adult Care Food Program in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
22. Perform other duties as needed.

Position Reports To Camilo Prada Child Development Center Director
Required Qualifications

Must have a one year certificate in Child Development or be currently enrolled in Child Development courses or related field.
Must have a minimum of 9 to 12 months experience working with young children 18 months to 5 years old in a licensed child care facility or at least 2 Child Development internships.

Certificates/Licenses and Skills

Must agree to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification and participate in at least Twenty (25) clock hours of child development training on an annual basis.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of all local, state, national and federal laws and regulations for child care centers; developmentally appropriate practices and be computer literate. Must be able to provide individual and/or group direction, guidance and supervision of children in the performance of developmental activities. Must maintain emotional control under stress, work with frequent interruptions, and be able to perform physical tasks such as moderate lifting and carrying. Must be able to stand and/or walk for prolonged periods of time. Must be physically and mentally able to provide a supportive, safe and caring environment for children. Experienced in the use of personal computer software programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel. The part-time teacher assistant must have a cooperative attitude and be able to communicate effectively with children, students, campus visitors, and college staff. All Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Licensing requirements, National Association for the Education of Young Children and Laredo Community College Child Development Program goals must be maintained at all times.

Physical Demands

Walking, standing, lifting (no more than 75 lbs.), carrying, and bending.
Must be able to perform physical tasks that are necessary for the needs and safety of the children.

Special Conditions

Must complete a criminal background check, finger printing, TB test showing absence of Tuberculosis, Notarized Licensing Affidavit, annual flu shot and physical exam.

Other duties may be assigned by immediate supervisor. May be required to work outside regular working hours.
