Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide a high-quality food safety education to students on important topics in the food service industry, such as helping prevent a foodbome illness, protecting customer health, improving employee performance and preserving business reputation.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

1. Develop course/program curriculum to address the areas of Food Manager Certification.
2. Prepare lesson plans, course syllabi, and Course Verification Forms.
3. Assess and modify teaching methods to accommodate diverse population of participants.
4. Keep accurate attendance records.
5. Submit required paperwork on time.
6. Participate in in-service training activities offered by the department.
7. Work a flexible schedule as determined by instructional activities.
8. Coordinate instructional activities with other faculty/staff in order to plan and promote the most effective instructional programs possible.
9. Perform other duties as assigned by the CE Director, Dean of Workforce Education, VP for Instruction and/or President.

Required Qualifications

Food Safety/Environmental Health/or Natural Sciences Associate Degree or Bachelor Degree.
Or, meet one of the following professional experience requirements:
-2 years of State or Local Health Department Regulatory Food Inspection Work Experience.
-3 years of Managerial Food Establishment Work Experience

Have worked in a food service operations environment in a managerial position for three years.

Preferred Qualifications
Certificates/Licenses and Skills

Current Certified ServSafeĀ® Instructor Certificate.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with the program staff and participants.
Ability to teach with technology, preferred.
Ability to communicate and teach in Spanish language, preferred.
Ability to teach weekdays and weekends, preferred.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form and ability to instruct and maintain emotional control under stress.
Must demonstrate enthusiasm.
Must be a self-starter and a positive role model.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
Must demonstrate a strong desire to teach and help others.
Must be computer literate-word processing, spreadsheets and Internet.

Physical Demands

Walking, standing, lifting, carrying, and bending.
Required to lift items weighing 1-25 or 26-50 pounds.
Be willing to work at varied locations.
Classes may be during the week or on the weekend.

Work Environment

Work-inside a well-lighted and air-conditioned area most of the time.
